How Often Should You Get a Haircut?

Published: August 30, 2026 Category: Men's grooming

Every two to four weeks. That is the honest answer, and where you land in that range depends almost entirely on the cut you are wearing.

Two weeks if you want it sharp

The tighter the work, the faster it moves out of shape. A skin fade or a taper is defined by a gradual change over a short distance, and hair growing in evenly is exactly what blurs that. The cut does not look bad after two weeks, it just stops looking like the cut you paid for. If you care about it looking deliberate, two weeks is your interval.

The same is true of an edge up. A squared hairline is only square while it is fresh.

Three to four weeks for a longer cut

If you are wearing more length on top and the sides are not taken down close, you have more room before it needs attention. Four weeks is reasonable. You will notice weight and shape going before you notice anything looking untidy.

What actually changes as it grows

Your neckline decides a lot of this

The finish at the back of your neck has more effect on your schedule than most men realise. A square neckline has sharp corners and crisp edges, which looks excellent and is high maintenance. A round neckline is softer but still needs upkeep to stay clean. A tapered neckline blends into the skin, which makes it the most natural looking and the least demanding, because it grows out smooth rather than growing out obviously.

If you are trying to stretch four weeks instead of two, asking for a tapered neckline is the single easiest change to make.

Pick an interval and keep it

The practical move is picking a cycle and booking the next appointment before you leave. Coming in on a regular rhythm means each cut is a small correction rather than a rebuild, and it stays consistent because there is less guessing about where things were last time.
